Cappadocia and
Mount Bolkar Crossing |
|
With
its unique geological formations, Cappadocia is
incontestably one of the most remarkable natural
phenomena on this planet. During millions of years wind,
rain and frost, has eroded the tuff (volcanic rock) and
formed the most amazing patterns. By traversing this
landscape on foot you will appreciate the country’s
historical richness as well as its unusual landscape.
Forming part of the chain of Taurus, the Bolkar Massif
exhibits very particular geological characteristics.
Made of sedimentary material such as limestone and
dolomites, it reveals excellent examples of sheet or
folds in the rock layers. |
 |
 |
Vast
formations of karst as well as landscapes showing the
effects of hydraulic erosion and glaciers are numerous.
Whole villages populate the sides of these mountains
with their sheep during the summer grazing season
perpetuating their centuries old wandering traditions.
In this tour we offer not only a journey through the
alpine plains of Anatolia, in an attractive mountainous
setting but also a truly enriching exchange with the
hospitable nomadic people of Turkish mountains...
